I wanted to come back and share a few things from Thanksgiving that were left out. Starting with Thanksgiving.....
Gracie woke up not feeling well. I thought she might be coming down with a stomach bug. I was busy getting the turkey ready to put in, Dusty was gone playing football with the guys and there was a ton more to do. My mom explained to me what needed to be prepared next and I would move to the next step. (Nothing like hands on experience to be able to do it yourself next year! Do you think this was planned? :) Dusty and the guys got home from playing football (injury free I might add) and things were hopping in the kitchen. I had just put the sweet potatoes in the oven with the marshmallows on top to broil. Dusty came in and said he needed me right away. I went to follow him and completely forgot about the sweet potatoes. Needless to say, when I came back a few minutes later there was a certain stench in the air. The sweet potatoes were covered in charcoal black marshmallows and I heard the story of the six inch flames. Sam said it happened so fast that she couldn't grab her camera in time. Bummer. She did get an after picture though! Anyways, I had to call the doctor about Gracie and my mom had to finish up. (so don't forget next year mom, you have to show me the ropes on the mashed potatoes, they are one of the most important things!!) The doctor thought she might have a urinary tract infection so Dusty had to take her to the hospital. Luckily, I was talking to my sis-in-law and her friend was working at the emergency room. Just a short while later Dusty called and was on his way home with her and an antibiotic.
Relieved to hear things were going to be okay with her, I sat down with the girls with dessert and the ADS!! We had just sat down and Colton was behind Jodi and I on the bench. All of a sudden I hear a crash and find him on the floor underneath the bench. I picked him up and took him to the living room to comfort him. He turned and I saw a cut near the corner of his eye. He had split his eye open and it seemed he needed stitches. I called Dusty and asked if he was on his way home so he could possibly turn around and take Colton. I think he thought I was joking. I had to laugh just because it seemed kind of comical at the time. It wouldn't be the first time we spent Thanksgiving at the hospital and I would never say it will be the last :) He finally calmed down after Tyler (his new buddy) put him to sleep and took a nap with him on the couch. It seemed to close up since he finally left it alone. Thank you LORD!
Tyler and Jodi were staying with us over the holiday. They came on Wednesday night and left Friday night. It was so fun having them stay with us and they were such great company. They cleaned up, helped out and most importantly both nights put Colton to sleep for us :) Do you want to know how? They sang to him :)
Jodi and I stayed up too late the night of Thanksgiving, talking and planning our game plan for the morning. We went to bed around ten thirty and slept for a bit before both of our kids were up!! The kids didn't sleep great and we had to be up at three thirty or four to go shopping. Once we were up we were okay, but I was looking forward to coffee later :) We found a lot of great deals and had a lot of fun. We missed the other part of our team (Jen and Chris) but we ran into Jen and talked to Chris on the phone!
Once we got home from shopping we came home to another great treat. Tyler was going to make us lefsa. It is a tradition (Norwegian) in his home to make after Thanksgiving with mashed potatoes. He slaved away for over an hour and they were delicious. Jodi came to help him and Dusty and I just ate, ate and ate!! Thanks again Tyler and Jodi for everything, we had fun! You are excellent house guests :)
One more thing I want to document.....I hope this is the last year that our family can't all be together! It was sad knowing Chris (and her family) was by herself but we really missed her too. It wasn't the same not having Jen and her family around either, but at least we did get to see her! Note to Keith: Next year you guys are coming!!
Tonight we will celebrate Thanksgiving part II. Dusty's parents, brothers and families and his grandma (I think). I better go get some things done before everyone gets here!!
